A priority for TxDOT in Titus county is I-30 with its bridges and overpasses.
TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
One area of East Texas has to regularly prepare for winter weather and what it can do to roadways.
The northern counties of Titus, Hopkins and Franklin are part of an area known as the 'I-30 Corridor', which is usually the first to experience the effects of winter blasts.
With sand, salt, and gravel, Texas Department of Transportation crews in counties like Titus are hoping to keep the roads safer for travelers.
"We'll have people on call, I'll be monitoring the weather all night long. We'll work in shifts monitoring the highways, roaming the highways, checking bridges and roads all through the night," says Titus County TxDOT Supervisor Carl Peters.
Northern counties will also send sand trucks out to offset ice build up.
