A Phoenix man was in jail on suspicion of murder for shooting his roommate after an argument Sunday night.

William Locke, 47, was found unconscious in his car with and with an apparent gunshot wound about 7:15 p.m., said Phoenix police spokesman officer James Holmes.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, Holmes said.

Locke, and his roommate, Gary McGill, also 47, became involved in a shoving match as Locke was moving out of their residence near 43rd and Sweetwater avenues, Holmes said.

At some point during the altercation, which was believed to have been over money, McGill produced a gun and shot Locke, Holmes said.

McGill, who stayed at the scene, was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree murder.

Holmes said the investigation was continuing.
