DFW cancels flights due to storm DFW cancels flights due to storm
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Dozens of flights in and out of the Dallas area were postponed and canceled when a Midwest storm dropped sleet and freezing rain on Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW).

Several travelers were rerouted through Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) Sunday afternoon. Jorge Rodriguez was flying from San Antonio to Kansas City, MO, when the storms changed his layover to a different time zone.

"Our plane got canceled so they flew us here," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez spent the next four hours touring Phoenix while travelers waited for the next flight home. Donna Birks used the time to see the sights in the Valley of the Sun.

"It's been rough and it's been a long day but we just made the most of it," Birks said. "We went up to the mountains and took pictures."

American Airlines, US Airways and Southwest all had flights in and out of Dallas canceled at Sky Harbor. The cancellations sent travelers shuffling across the country with different layovers. After a trip across the Southwest, Birks and Rodriguez finally had their ticket home to Missouri.

"It's always nice to get away but it's always nice to go home," Birks said.

DFW International advised all passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information into Monday as the storm continues to tamper with holiday travel plans.
