Saturday morning fatal house fire under investigation

Posted: Updated:

A man has died after being pulled from a burning home in north Phoenix early Saturday morning.

Phoenix fire spokesman Captain Ruben Saavedra said fire units were called shortly after 6 a.m. to a home near Cave Creek road and the Carefree Highway.

Saavedra said arriving firefighters found a home with the garage fully engulfed by a fire that was quickly spreading to the rest of the home.

Firemen made their way into the burning home and found a man and a dog inside.

The roof of the home began to collapse on the rescuers as they pulled the pair from the home, said Saavedra.

Investigators on scene told a CBS 5 reporter the man was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition but died a short time later.

The dog survived the fire.

There were no firefighter injuries reported and fire investigators were still on scene Saturday afternoon investigating the cause of the fire.
