PHOENIX (CBS5) -

If you're heading to Arizona's high country over the holidays, there are some closures to be aware of.

ADOT said the following state routes are closed each year during the winter because of heavy snowfall.

  • State Route 67 between Jacob Lake (US 89A) and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park will close Dec. 2.
  • State Route 473 to Hawley Lake in the White Mountains will also close Dec. 2.
  • State Route 261 between Big Lake and the State Route 260 junction will close Dec. 31. The four-mile stretch of State Route 273 between SR 260 and Sunrise Park Resort will stay open for skiers.
  • A portion of State Route 366 that leads to Mount Graham near Safford was closed for the winter on Nov. 15.

ADOT said it may need to close the scenic highway, also known as "Swift Trail", at lower elevations for snow removal.

The roads could close sooner if Mother Nature hits. Updates can be found on azdot.gov.

The roads will reopen by early spring.
