A judge denied a request from prosecutors and defense attorneys to ban all journalists from being in the courtroom during the retrial of a man charged with the murders of nine people at a Buddhist temple in metro Phoenix.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Joseph Kreamer also granted a request by TV stations to allow pool video camera coverage of Jonathan Doody's retrial.
Doody is accused of participating in the 1991 slayings at the Wat Promkunaram temple.
He was convicted in 1993, but his conviction was thrown out after a court ruled investigators improperly obtained his confession.
His second trial ended with a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a verdict.
Jury selection for Doody's third trial began Monday.
Last week, a judge ruled that no cameras will be allowed in the high-profile Jodi Arias trial. Arias was convicted of killing her ex-lover Travis Alexander in Mesa in 2008. In May, a jury found her guilty of murder but the same jury could not reach an agreement on a life sentence or the death penalty for Arias. Her retrial is expected to begin next month.
