Sheriff's Department to host free 'Shred-A-Thon' event

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The public can rid of old or unwanted documents this weekend at a "Shred-A-Thon."

The Pima County Sheriff's Department collaborates with Shred-It to raise the public's awareness about identity theft through these events.

Officials said shredding old documents greatly decreases the chance of thieves assuming one's identity.

The free service is offered Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Empire High School at 10701 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way.

A drive-through shredding service will be offered with an attendant who will approach your car and transfer up to five file size boxes of paperwork to a bin for shredding. Documents from businesses will not be accepted, according to a news release.

Questions can be directed to the Community Resources Unit at (520) 351-4615.
