PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
The driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run collision led Peoria police on a low-speed chase before he was taken into custody early Friday morning.
Peoria police were investigating a report of an erratic driver near 83rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road just before 7 a.m. when they learned the vehicle had collided head-on with another vehicle but drove away, said Amanda Jacinto, a Peoria police spokeswoman.
Officers tried to stop the driver, identified as 51-year-old Mitchell Weedman, but he refused and stop sticks were deployed, Jacinto said. Weedman then tried to hit an officer and rammed a police cruiser before he was caught, Jacinto said.
No one was injured, she said, but officers believed Weedman was impaired.
