MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A man arrested on charges of sexually assaulting his roommate also faces aggravated assault with a weapon after he allegedly ran after her with a nail-covered stick, police said.

Daniel Patrick McLachlan, 56, was arrested in Scottsdale after the victim, who suffered a stab wound to her abdomen, called police Monday evening.

Police said they learned McLachlan had allowed the woman to stay in his Mesa home after they met more than one month ago in Mesa if she helped him with food using her food stamps, according to a probable cause statement.

On Monday, the victim told police McLachlan came into her room naked from the waist down. When she refused to have sex, the man told her to get out of the house, the court document said.

As the victim began collecting her belongings, the suspect re-entered the room and punched her in the back, the court document stated.

When McLachlan raised his fist to strike her, she showed him a knife and said if he didn't leave her alone, she would stab him, court paperwork stated.  The suspect grabbed her shirt and arm and the victim stabbed him, according to the probable cause statement.

McLachlan, carrying to stick with nails in it, chased her out of the home, court paperwork said.

The victim ran to a neighbor's house across the statement and called 911.
