PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Authorities in Phoenix say arrests have been made in the beating death of a local athlete, 17-year-old Alexis Urbina-Ochoa.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said officers arrested 23-year-old Joseph Jessie Corrales and 22-year-old Robert Chavez Friday evening.  They were booked into the Maricopa County Jail charged with first degree murder, second degree burglary and trafficking in stolen property.

Crump said investigators were tipped off to the pair because they were selling items that were stolen from the home during the crime back in September.

The police have been working on leads since the badly beaten body of Urbina-Ochoa was found in his home just over two months ago.  The Amateur boxer had recently won a USA Youth Boxing National title this past spring.

Crump said Corrales and Chavez are gang members and had no prior ties to the young victim.

CBS 5 reporter, Jonathan Lowe, is getting reaction from family and friends and will have his story update later today.
