No solution for dangerous intersection in Perrysburg Twp

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Perrysburg Township officials are calling the intersection of Eckel Junction Road and 199 one of the most dangerous places in the township, but there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Neighbors say there have been more accidents at that intersection than they can count.

"It's incredibly busy, especially at rush hour," said Stacey Jackson.

Traffic backs up for blocks every day at the intersection.

"It's dangerous because a lot of people don't like waiting, and so there's lots of speeding out and coming quick as people are trying to get out there, so I think a stop light would be good there," Jackson said.

But the problem is officials say there isn't enough traffic to warrant installing a light. They say one solution is to extend Carronade Drive until it meets Scheider Road, but that brings another set of challenges.

"If you extend Carronade, that means that traffic comes through our neighborhood," said resident Dennis Seymour.

It would cost millions of dollars to install a new road, and township officials say they don't have that money.

"The majority of people in the area know when the traffic is bad, and I avoid it," Seymour said.

Township officials say it's safest to avoid the area if you can until a permanent solution can be afforded.
