PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club will team with the Valley of the Sun United Way on Tuesday, October 22 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Balsz Elementary School (4825 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix) for the 15th annual NFL & United Way Hometown Huddle.

Cardinals wide receiver Andre Roberts, running back Alfonso Smith and linebacker Zack Nash will join team mascot Big Red, Cardinals Cheerleaders, members from the Cardinals Women's Club, and Valley of the Sun United Way volunteers at the school to put the finishing touches on beautification projects at the school that include two murals that were created and designed by the students at the school. The Cardinals group will also host a PLAY 60 kids camp featuring fitness activities and drills for 100 elementary students.

The NFL's Hometown Huddle program focuses on volunteerism and volunteer recruitment. Each year the Cardinals and the NFL take part in an event to give back to the community and underprivileged children. The Hometown Huddle event provides the organization an opportunity to help children from high risk communities throughout the Valley.

The NFL/United Way "Hometown Huddle" is a NFL-wide day of service that provides NFL players and coaches from each team the opportunity to take part in a variety of community-service activities, including building homes for low-income families and visiting local military bases. Started in 1999 by the NFL and United Way, Hometown Huddle continues to help make a difference in communities across the country.

Valley of the Sun United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. Their goal is to create long-lasting and measurable changes that improve the quality of life for struggling individuals, families and children throughout Maricopa Country.
