Arizona women's tennis continued its success on Friday at the ITA Regional tournament, as two doubles teams advanced to the round of 16 and senior Kim Stubbe advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play.
Senior Akilah James and freshman Lauren Marker defeated Fullerton's McIntosh and Slevcove, 8-5, while seniors Lacey Smyth and Stubbe earned a win over UCSB's Meehan and Scatliffe, 8-2. Both teams will play in the round of 16 on Saturday.
Stubbe won two singles matches on the day, first over SDSU's Hailey Johnson and later over UCLA's Catherine Harrison. She won both matches in straight sets to advance her to the quarterfinal round, which will also be played on Saturday.
"To see Kim in the quarters of the ITA Regionals again is fantastic, but I'm also excited about our success in doubles play," Arizona head coach Vicky Maes said. "The girls have been competing hard in this tournament. We have come away with some significant individual wins so far."
James, Marker and Smyth all earned wins in the round of 32, but fell in the round of 16.
"We are looking forward to tomorrow's matchups against two very good USC teams," Maes said. "But I like our chances."
