Coyotes assign Summers to Portland

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have assigned defenseman Chris Summers to the Portland Pirates (AHL) and recalled forward Brandon Yip.

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Summers has appeared in 29 career games with the Coyotes, totaling 0-3-3 and 24 penalty minutes (PIM). He played in six games with Phoenix in 2012-13, recording nine PIM. The 25-year-old native of Ann Arbor, Michigan was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (29th overall) in the 2006 Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Yip recorded 3-5-8 in 34 games with the Nashville Predators last season. The 28-year-old native of Vancouver, B.C. has totaled 29-27-56 with 130 PIM in 172 career NHL games. Yip was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the eighth round (239th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
