PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Police said two men behind at least 20 armed robberies were captured in Phoenix Sunday, capping a 10-day crime spree spread across four states.

The suspects, 34-year-old Jeromy Neal and 20-year-old Amador Cuebas, are believed to have committed the crimes in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico beginning on Sept. 19, before arriving in Phoenix five days later, where they carried out seven more robberies until their arrests, said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Martos said there was a method behind the pair's robberies. Neal would enter a fast food restaurant or convenience store armed with a gun and demand money from employees. Cuebas would remain in the vehicle and serve as the "getaway" driver, Martos said.

The Phoenix Police Department's Robbery Unit began looking into the crimes on Sept. 24, when the first armed robbery occurred in Phoenix.

During the course of the investigation, a patrol officer on routine patrol spotted the vehicle near 32nd Street and Thomas Road. The officer ran the license plate based on suspicious activity, Martos said.

The patrol officer recognized the vehicle as one being involved in these robberies. Investigators were able to identify both suspects.

On Sunday, the suspects were involved in another armed robbery in the area of 4200 West Cactus Road. Officers located the vehicle, but Neal and Cuebas fled the area. The pair was arrested a short time later.

Detectives said they are trying to determine if the suspects were involved in additional robberies in other states while enroute to Phoenix.
