Ridgefield dad who triggered Amber Alert due in court

RIDGEFIELD, CT (WFSB/AP) -

A Ridgefield man is due in Danbury Superior Court on charges of violating a protection order after police said he took his son to New York after a domestic dispute.

Paul Lupo, 49, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, just one day after he was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call and failure to have a child safety seat in his vehicle.

Police said Lupo fled with his 5-year-old son Sunday night, triggering a statewide Amber Alert.

"You don't expect things like that to happen around here," Ridgefield resident Barbara Nevins said. "Unfortunately it does."

Police canceled the alert within an hour when authorities found the boy with relatives in the Bronx in New York City, but Lupo was nowhere to be found.

It was not immediately known how Lupo was found.

He was released after posting $5,000 bond.
