A 5-month-old girl died after drowning in a bathtub at an apartment in New Britain Saturday morning.
Officers were called to a report of an "unresponsive baby" at a residence in the 300 block of High Street just before 8 a.m.
Police said the caller attempted to administer CPR to the infant after receiving instructions from the dispatcher.
Once officers arrived, the unidentified infant, who police said was not breathing at the time, was taken to Hospital of Central Connecticut New Britain Campus, where she died a short time later.
The medical examiner ruled the infant's cause of death as "asphyxia by drowning" and said the child's death was "accidental."
There is an "open investigation" into the drowning, but no criminal charges are pending at this time.
