WARE, MA (WSHM) -

Residents living in a neighborhood in Ware had the scare of their lives Friday night.

Not only did a house catch on fire, but explosions rocked the streets and it was all caught on camera.

A father and son were home at the time when flames broke out, but luckily they were able to escape before things escalated.

Home video caught the moment when explosions erupt in the backyard of an East Street home in Ware.

The fire broke out just after 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. When fire crews arrived, they found the house engulfed in flames.

"They immediately struck a second alarm which brought in West Brimfield and Warren to the scene," said Chief Thomas Coulombe.

Randy Reece was home with his family when he saw heavy smoke coming from his neighbor's backyard.

He said he then saw the flames going up the side of the home.

"Then we pulled out the phone and started to film," Randy Reece said.

Moments later, the giant explosion occurred.

Reece said he and his son Ryley ran for their lives.

"I was like really terrified it was really scary," Randy Reece said.

Two propane tanks sitting in the back yard exploded when touched by the flames, sending one hundreds of feet away, landing in the street.

The exploding tanks caused major problems for the fire fighters.

"They caused a vehicle fire on top of what we were already dealing with," said Coulombe.

A charred hollowed out house was left smoldering Friday night, and a family is now homeless.

The Reece family said they know what their neighbors are going through.

Just months ago their own home caught on fire. They said Friday's fire was a terrifying reminder.

"I was like this can't be happening again,"said Patricia Reece.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire. Coulombe said the State Fire Marshal Investigation team was called in to investigate.

One fire fighter was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The Red Cross is also assisting the family.
