NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

A New London resident confronted a 23-year-old man and stopped him from taking their motor vehicle early Monday morning, police said.

According to police, David Weintraub of an unknown address was found sitting in a motor vehicle in a driveway of a home on Orchard Street around 4 a.m.

When Weintraub went to start the vehicle, the unidentified resident heard it and rushed outside, police said.

Weintraub got out of the vehicle and after a short chase, the resident caught him, police said. The resident held Weintraub until officers arrived.

Weintraub was arrested and charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

Weintraub, who remains in police custody, is expected to be arraigned in New London Superior Court Monday.
