Crack cocaine, body armor, weapons seized during Vernon arrest

VERNON ROCKVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

Vernon police seized a firearm, crack cocaine and body armor from a 23-year-old man during a drug arrest Friday night.

Officers spotted six men "loitering in and around a vehicle" in the parking area on Becker Place just before 10 p.m. after a report of "illegal narcotic activity."

As police arrived, officers said they heard a bottle drop and break.

Genario Jones Jr., of Hartford, admitted to being in possession of a "freshly lit marijuana cigarette," located near him.

While searching Jones, police said they discovered he was wearing a bullet-proof vest under his clothing. Jones was not cooperative with officers and police said he "was placed on the ground and handcuffed."

Officers found the following items on Jones:

  • A .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his back pocket
  • Fully loaded magazine for the firearm in his front pocket
  • One loose bullet
  • 2.8 grams of crack cocaine, broken into multiple small pieces

Officers searched the other men and found a bottle of alcohol as well as two ziplock bags containing 11.2 grams of marijuana.

Rafael Baez, 20, of Rockville, was issued an infraction for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Freddie Williams III, 20, of Rockville, was issued an infraction for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Jones was arrested and charged with:

  • Carrying a gun without a permit
  • Possession with intent to sell drugs within 1,500 feet of a school/daycare
  • Possession of drugs within 1,500 feet of a school/daycare
  • Possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana
  • Interfering with police
  • Two counts of criminal possession of a firearm
  • Possession with intent to sell crack cocaine
  • Possession of crack cocaine

Jones was held on $250,000 bond and arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
