The Arizona Cardinals have selected Gary L. Trujillo as the recipient of the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award.
The NFL and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) have partnered for the third annual NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Awards during the 2013 celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The awards recognize the contributions of Hispanic leaders in each NFL market.
The Cardinals will honor Trujillo on September 15 at their Hispanic Heritage game against the Detroit Lions.
Trujillo founded Southwest Harvard Group in 1990 and has served as President & CEO since inception. Trujillo has historically been active in educational issues throughout the country. He has served as the youngest school board member of the Phoenix Union High School District and was appointed by the Governor of the State of Arizona to become the First Chairperson of the Schools Facilities Board. Trujillo's most treasured success is the creation of the Be a Leader Foundation (BALF) with his wife Melissa. BALF's mission and programs support young students to become college bound, focused and prepared. The programs provide services to elementary, high school and college students to build self-esteem, leadership skills and to promote higher education, as well as mentoring through the stages of their educational and career development. Trujillo has mentored hundreds of young adults and continues his quest to help them become leaders as they flourish and achieve in college, career and life. His educational commitment and achievements have been recognized throughout the country through the following honors and awards: Man of the Year from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Exemplary Leadership Award from Profiles of Success, Alumni of the Year from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and the Life-Time Achievement award from the Phoenix Business Journal. Trujillo currently serves on the boards of Wells Fargo Bank Desert Mountain Region and BlueCross and BlueShield of Arizona and is a member of Young Presidents' Organization.
Each award recipient will select an organization of their choice that serves the local Hispanic community to receive a $2,000 donation.
Trujillo has chosen the Be a Leader Foundation to receive this donation. The Be A Leader Foundation designs programs that provide a positive learning environment and a college-focused mentality for each participant to develop their high school and college educational plan.
