The Western Athletic Conference today announced that Grand Canyon University's Kyle Ciliento and Joshua Zehring have been named conference Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Aug. 26-Sept. 1, the first weekly award for the 2013 season.
This WAC is sponsoring men's soccer for the first time in 14 years.
Ciliento was responsible for both of GCU's goals in their season-opening 2-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha on Friday night. All three of his shots were on goal as he finished with four total points in the game, his first for the Antelopes after missing the past two seasons due to injury.
Zehring played at the net the entire 90 minutes Friday, recording four saves and allowing just one goal, which came via a penalty kick in the second half. He posted an .800 save percentage in the contest.
The 'Lopes are back in action today, as they are set to square off against Loyola University Chicago, members of the Missouri Valley Conference, at 11 a.m. (Arizona time). Fans can follow the action by visiting www.gculopes.com.
