Five injured during early morning crash in Bristol

BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Bristol police responded to a serious crash early Saturday morning that sent five people to area hospitals for their injuries.

Police were called to the area of Cherry Hill Drive near Stevens Street for reports of a two-car, head-on collision.

Police told Eyewitness News 21-year-old Elvis Caban of Bristol was operating a 2004 Cadillac CTS heading west on Stevens Street when he crossed the center line striking a GMC Acadia head on.

The operator of the Acadia, 70-year-old Penelope Sobolewski, was traveling with three other passengers in her car at the time of the crash.

Caban was transported to the hospital and is currently listed in serious condition.

Sobolewski was transported to the hospital to be treated for minor leg injuries.

Sophie White, 83, of Bristol, a passenger in the Acadia was transported via LifeStar helicopter to the hospital where she is currently listed in critical condition.

Additionally, 66-year-old Mary Ann Spirto of Bristol was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious leg, shoulder and chest injuries.

The third passenger, 84-year-old Evelyn Petosa of Bristol was transported to the hospital and is currently listed in critical but stable conation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team of the Bristol Police Department.
