Surprise high school freshman dies after terminal diagnosis

Posted: Updated:
SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

Prestin Etienne, a 15-year-old high school freshman at Shadow Ridge High School in Surprise, passed away early Saturday morning following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Etienne was featured in a CBS 5 story in April about his desire to become an architect, despite a terminal diagnosis by doctors.

He continued to attend the CTE Architecture program classes at his school until the school year ended.

After our story, professional architects in the Valley invited Etienne to tour their offices and become an architect for a day. He was also able to tour a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home with one of Wright's relatives.

Etienne's last months were spent at Phoenix's Ryan House, a facility specifically designed for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Etienne would have turned 16 years old in November. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
