Michelle Knight in court at Ariel Castro's sentencing hearing
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
"I can forgive but will never forget," says Michelle Knight.
Michelle Knight's courage in court as she came face to face with her captor Ariel Castro.
"You took 11 years of my life away and I have got it back. I spent 11 years in hell, now your hell is just beginning. I will overcome all that has happened, but you will face hell for eternity," says Knight.
" She really is an extraordinary strong woman. To be able to testify after what she's gone through," said Psychologist Sylvia Rimm.
Psychologist Sylvia Rimm watched Thursday's testimony along with people around the world.
Rimm says Michelle Knight and the other women are fighters, but, she's concerned that Michelle, Amanda and Gina may suffer from post traumatic stress, that could include nightmares, anxiety and anger.
"They have a long road ahead," says Dr. Rimm.
A road of recovery that's already begun, but, what will the future be like for Michelle and the other women as they try to move forward?
"After the horror they went through they will appreciate every day of freedom that many of us take for granted," says Dr. Rimm.
The final chapter of this horrific story is ending with the words from a woman who may be wounded, but her strength continues to allow her to be a survivor.
"From this moment on, I will not let you define me or affect who I am," says Michelle.
