HAMPDEN, MA (WSHM) -

Two days after the body of Amy Lord was discovered in Hyde Park in Boston, friends are showing support for her family.

The 24-year-old Wilbraham native was kidnapped from her South Boston home and then brutally stabbed to death.

Friends of Amy said they are still trying to comprehend what happened to her.

"It's one of those things where I think it still hasn't hit me yet," said Kellie Forrest.

Police are currently investigating her murder.

"She didn't deserve it. It didn't need to happen," said Marissa Hyszcsak.

"It shouldn't have happened and I think it puts a heaviness on the entire community," said Forrest.

Thursday night, the close-knit community tried to lift some of that heaviness by rallying together to show their support for Amy's family during this difficult time.

"My thoughts and prayers are with you and I can't imagine how tough this time is for her family right now," said Forrest

"I feel for them. I know I will never be able to understand what they are possibly feeling right now," said Hyszcsak.

A fundraising benefit in Amy's memory was held at McLadden's Irish Publik House on Main Street in Hampden.

Various items were raffled off with all of the proceeds going to the Lord family.

It's just one way to give in the memory of a person who friends said gave so much of herself to others.

"She was just a very, very giving person. She was a very kind person," said Hyszcsak.

Calling hours for Amy will be held at the Sampson's Chapel of The Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield on Monday from 3-7 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia's Church in Wilbraham.

Memorial contributions in Amy's memory may be made to the Christopher James Burnham Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 13, Wilbraham, MA 01095-0013 and or to The Friends of Mike Farrell, P.O. Box 963, Wilbraham, MA 01095.
