Woman injured after falling in Hamden

Posted: Updated:

A woman suffered serious injuries after falling 40 feet while hiking in Hamden Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were called to rescue the unidentified woman near Lake Wintergreen around 10:30 p.m.

Fire officials said the mountain rescue team used ropes and a hauling system to save the woman after she fell about 40 feet down a ravine.

The woman was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

It is not clear how the person fell.

"Obviously this is a beautiful place to hike during the day when the sun is out and its still daylight," said fire officials. "But as soon as the sun goes down, these parks are closed to hikers for obvious reasons and this is perfect example of that."

The park remained closed during the rescue.
