PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A man in a wheelchair was hospitalized after he was attacked with a brick by one of several men during an armed home invasion just before midnight Monday.
Two other adults and three children were shaken up but expected to be OK after the incident near 86th and Minnezona avenues, Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes said.
Four people were later arrested in Glendale and booked into the Maricopa County Jail in connection with the home invasion.
The suspects broke into the rear of the home near Camelback Road and 83rd Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Monday and demanded jewelry and money, ransacking the home and holding the victims at gunpoint, Holmes said.
One of the suspects then struck the man in the wheelchair in the head with a brick and at least one of the suspects also kicked the man, Holmes said.
The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but was in stable condition, Holmes said.
The suspects then left the residence. A witness said he saw them leave in a white, four-door sedan with its lights off and a rear door still open, Holmes said.
That information was passed on to Phoenix and Glendale police, and a short time later a Glendale patrol spotted the car near 63rd Avenue and Camelback Road with several people standing around.
Additional units from Phoenix and Glendale arrived and six people were detained, Holmes said.
Holmes said evidence of the robbery was found in the car and witnesses identified four of the suspects.
The four were arrested and booked into jail on robbery and aggravated assault charges, Holmes said.
Migel Tarin, 28; Rueben Tarin, 26; Francisco Aguilera, 25; and, Anthony Arenas, 20.
Two of the detained people were released, Holmes said.
"A special thanks goes out to the citizen who chose to get involved and provide our officers with crucial information, and to the Glendale Police Department for their assistance," Holmes said.
The homeowner said the suspects were armed and pointed a gun to his head and the heads of his wife and children. The woman and three children, boys ages 8 to 12 years old, were not hurt.
