Police: Officer not at fault in west Toledo crash

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A west Toledo accident involving a police cruiser Wednesday is now being questioned by many.

Surveillance video of the crash shows an officer driving through the intersection of Jackman and Berdan, lights and sirens on, and he gets hit by a truck.

When emergency vehicles are responding to calls, all other vehicles are required to pull over and stay out of the way, but the driver of the emergency vehicle must also drive with due regard to the safety of the public.

After an investigation, police say that's exactly what Lt. Frank Ramirez did. The other driver, Samuel Leech, was found to be at fault for not yielding.

Ramirez is recovering at home and is expected to be okay.
