Berlin man convicted of shooting at police

NEW BRITAIN, CT (AP) -

A 26-year-old Berlin man has been convicted of attempted assault for shooting at police last year.

A New Britain Superior Court jury convicted Jeffrey Yeaw on Wednesday of three counts of attempted first-degree assault with a firearm and three counts of attempted assault of a police officer. The New Britain Herald reports the six jurors deliberated for little more than an hour.

Berlin police say Yeaw opened fire on them in March of last year when they responded to a domestic dispute at Yeaw's home. One of the officers shot and wounded Yeaw. None of the officers was injured.

Yeaw's public defender said his client was drunk and suicidal that night.

A judge set sentencing for Yeaw for Sept. 27. He faces up to 90 years in prison.
