DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Several Decatur families who were displaced
by flash flooding on July 4th are still out of their apartments and don't know
when they can move back in.
The rising water gushed into eight units in one
building at Parkway Place Apartments, with the flooding destroying property on
the ground floor. Police ordered the evacuation of the building.
Catanna Brown came back to her apartment
Tuesday and discovered mold all over her furniture. She said the property
manager told affected tenants to move anything they want to keep upstairs
before cleanup crews start tearing out the carpet.
Brown and her two kids are
staying with relatives. She said there just isn't much left to keep.
"I lost all my food. I lost all my
furniture. Oh, God. It's tough to describe exactly what I'm going through. I'm
not even sure where I'm headed after this, you know, what my next step
is," Brown said.
The Parkway Place Apartments manager, Teri
Roberts, said cleanup crews would come to assess the damage and begin work
Wednesday. She added she does not know when tenants will be able to move back
