Home invasion suspect pretended to be a cop

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A mother and two small children were victims of a home invasion in Murfreesboro early Monday morning, and the crook pretended to be a cop. Police are now on the hunt for the fake officer.

Candace Booker is a neighbor of the victim, Shakista Davis, 28, of Benley Street in Murfreesboro.

"I know she's terrified, she has two children, and her youngest is still an arm baby," Booker said.

The early morning home invasion at Davis' townhome was a little too close for comfort, according to Booker.

"That makes me worry about someone kicking in my door, coming in with me and my son in there," Booker said.

Booker said her son and Davis' son play together.

"It's terrifying not just for me, but for my child," she said.

Davis told police she was asleep just after 2 a.m. when she was jolted awake by someone kicking in her door. She said came face-to-face with the crook who claimed he was a police officer.

"It is troublesome that someone would identify themselves as a police officer in the middle of the night," said Murfreesboro police Sgt. Kyle Evans.

The robber ordered Davis to the floor, but she ran and locked herself in a bedroom and called the real police.

"Anytime you have someone enter your home in the middle of the night, it's dangerous," Evans said. "Most recently, we had a burglary suspect shot while he was in the commission of a burglary."

The victim told police the only thing she noticed was missing from the residence was a pack of cigarettes.

Channel 4 News spoke with the victim by phone. She said she and her children are OK, but they are still a little shaken up about what happened.

The victim was only able to give police a vague description of the suspect. She said she saw a dark skin black male wearing a white T-shirt standing at the top of the stairs.

She also told police she believes it was more than one person because she heard other voices in the residence as well.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
