MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

A man who drowned while swimming in the Salt River Thursday was identified as a 40-year-old Phoenix man.

A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office dive team recovered the body Luis Alberto Gutierrez about 4:20 p.m. near the Blue Point Bridge on the Salt River.

Deputies said witnesses told them Gutierrez was swimming with another person across the river and went under the water about 50 yards from shore.

Gutierrez's body was found in about 15 feet of water, deputies said.

Rural Metro spokesman Colin Williams said the victim jumped off of the Blue Point Bridge on the Salt River, and never came back up.

No other details were immediately available.
