LYLES, TN (WSMV) -
A man is charged in the shooting death of his wife early Thursday at the Hickman County home where they lived.
Police were called just after 1:30 a.m. to the home in the 8100 block of Randolph Lane in Lyles, where they found 28-year-old Catherin Taylor with a single gunshot to the head. She later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The victim's husband, Cody Taylor, 27, told police he was cleaning his gun when he accidentally shot his wife.
Originally, police believed the man, but as the day went on, something changed.
"Well, at first we thought it might have been, but now we've ruled that out, and we think it's a shooting incident that apparently he shot her with a gun," said Hickman County Sheriff Randal Ward.
After an investigation, officers arrested Taylor on a charge of criminal homicide. He was jailed without bond, and a hearing is set for July 23.
Investigators have not said what caused them to change their mind about Taylor's story.
The couple does not appear to originally be from Hickman County. The landlord who rented to them said they only lived there about a year.
