Car slams into restaurant in Willimantic

WILLIMANTIC, CT (WFSB) -

Three people were sent to area hospitals after a car crashed into a Chinese restaurant in Willimantic Wednesday afternoon.

A motor vehicle slammed into Peking House in the BJ's plaza on West Main Street at about 3:30 p.m.

According to police, the unidentified woman driving the car hit the gas pedal and crashed into another car. The woman hit the gas pedal again and crashed into the building.

"I see a car jump the curb, fly up in the air hit my car and continue going," said Glady's. She didn't stop or anything, just continue going and ended up in the restaurant."

A mother and her son were eating inside the restaurant when the crash happened. They were pinned behind a breakfast nook.

The mother suffered a head injury and was taken by Life Star medical helicopter to an area hospital.

The child, who suffered a leg injury, along with the driver were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

Glady's told Eyewitness News her 1-week-old Hyundai was wrecked.

"Thank God, I'm still here one piece," she said. "It's material thing that can be replaced. Hope everyone is OK."

The cause of the crash is under investigation by police.  No charges have been filed at this time.
