SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
A dog that was in apparent distress was rescued off an east Valley mountain Sunday morning, Scottsdale fire authorities said.
The owner alerted Scottsdale Fire Department paramedics about their plight as temperatures heated up.
Paramedics and the technical rescue team showed up at the Gateway Loop Trail. Crews headed up the trail with extra water and the "big wheel" to rescue the animal, said Scottsdale Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Read.
The dog was successfully retrieved off of the trail and appeared to be in good condition, Read said. The hiker was OK.
Read said the animal rescue serves as a reminder for residents to take extra preparations when hiking with their pets.
