Grand Canyon University head men's basketball coach Dan Majerle today announced that Jeremy Adams has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement for the 2013-14 season.
Adams joins Josh Braun, Miroslav Jaksic and Akachi Okugo as additions to Majerle's first incoming class, who will compete in their inaugural season as part of the Division I Western Athletic Conference.
Adams, a 6-5 guard from Madison, Miss., played the last two seasons with the University of Colorado. He attended Madison Central High School (Miss.), as well as Navarro Junior College (Tex.).
"With one year left to play, I wanted to make sure I made the right decision on choosing where to play," said Adams. "Playing the past two years in the Pac-12 and winning the conference a couple years ago, I wanted to go somewhere I could help lay down the foundation for a championship program. GCU has the vision and tools to make that happen. I'm just blessed to be a part of it and I hope with my one year left of eligibility, I can help GCU be one of the top basketball programs in years to come."
At Colorado, Adams played on a pair of squads that appeared in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time in 50 years. He saw action in 30 games last season as a junior and in 31 contests during his sophomore campaign. Last season, Adams averaged 11.0 minutes, 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He played a season-best 27 minutes in the Buffaloes' win versus Stanford on Jan. 24. Adams scored a season-high nine points with a pair of steals against Utah on Feb. 21. He made 10 three-pointers last season, shooting 52.6 percent from behind the arc.
"Jeremy has played in the NCAA Tournament the past two years and has played for a good program and at a very high level of competition," said Majerle. "He is a guy that is older and experienced and will help us greatly in our first year of transition into Division I. We are thrilled to have him in our program."
Prior to his time at Colorado, Adams played one season for Navarro Junior College (Tex.). There he averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
Adams originally signed with Texas A&M where he redshirted during his freshman season after a senior season at Madison Central that saw him average 27.2 points and 7.3 rebounds. He holds the Madison Central school record with 43 points in a game, a feat he accomplished on two occasions. Adams earned All-District, All-Metro and All-State McDonald's All-American nominations.
