Craigslist thief sentenced to jail for string of multi-county thefts
Most of the items stolen have been returned to the owners.
(Toledo News Now) -
The man accused of stealing property in three local counties, then selling it on Craigslist, was sentenced Thursday.
Walter Polus was sentenced to 39 months in jail after being convicted of three felonies and a misdemeanor.
Police say he broke into homes in Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties. Polus would walk into a garage or house and steal whatever he could that was by the door, then flee. Investigators say surveillance cameras eventually caught him in the act and he was arrested.
Authorities say Polus took thousands of dollars worth of items, such as purses, wallets, checks, power tools, computers and snowblowers. A large amount of the stolen property was recovered by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and Waterville Township Police Department.
