(RNN) - A freight train in Maryland derailed and exploded, injuring one.

The train reportedly hit a tractor-trailer. Officials said the train was carrying non-toxic chemicals. Two cars toward the back of the train caught fire.

Authorities said they have intercepted a threatening letter containing the deadly poison ricin that was mailed to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Similar threatening letters were also mailed to President Barack Obama and the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, but they were also intercepted before reaching their destinations. Police are investigating.

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-MN, said she will not be seeking re-election in 2014. The four-term congresswoman and former Republican presidential candidate said her decision was not due to investigations into her past presidential campaign.

Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the president met along the Jersey Shore to tour recovery efforts following Superstorm Sandy in October. The two praised the progress being made.
