COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) -

A Manchester man was arrested after he allegedly took psychedelic mushrooms and hit a woman at a home in Coventry early Monday morning.

Officers were called to a home on Ripley Hill Road for an alleged assault around 5 a.m.

During their investigation, police discovered James Norris, 32, was visiting a female acquaintance after having eaten an unknown amount of psychedelic mushrooms.

Police said Norris hit the woman after he started to hallucinate. However, Norris told investigators that he "could not remember what happened."

Norris was arrested and charged with third-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful restraint, possession of a hallucinogen, disorderly conduct, possession of narcotics, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

He was held on $10,000 bond and was arraigned Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
