Temperatures are rising in the Valley so it might be a good time to escape the heat and head to a higher location.
CBS 5 calls it an "elevation vacation," and our first "vacation" sits above 8,000 feet, north of Flagstaff.
It's a cabin in the middle of the Coconino National Forest.
From the cabin, visitors can see the San Francisco Peaks and Kendrick Mountain Wilderness Area.
The Kendrick Cabin is owned by the National Forest Service and sits land that belongs to the Forest Service.
Visitors can hike, mountain bike or ride their ATVs. Or they can go back in time in the rustic cabin, which was built back in the 1960s.
"We originally built these stations as a fire station or a fire lookout station. We would stage a fire engine here, four to five people and they would spend the summer here patrolling the forests, giving them quicker response times to fires in the area," said Rudy Bowen with the Coconino National Forest Service.
The forest service no longer keeps a fire engine there because they have centralized most of their equipment in Flagstaff.
Plus, it's more effective to fight many of these forest fires from the air.
So now the public can enjoy the cabin. During summer, the Forest Service hauls water to the cabin. There is hot water for the shower and a flushing toilet.
The cabin sleeps 10 people and has a propane stove.
There are few houses in the area, but that doesn't mean visitors are completely alone.
"You will see elk and deer come out of the mountains, almost every night and just sit right here on the front porch," said Bowen.
There still are openings available for this summer. The Kendrick Cabin is $125 per night.
The Forest Service also has another cabin available in the Flagstaff area and two others in the Sedona area.
