The National Weather service confirmed two EF-0 tornados touched down Friday in Limestone County.

The first tornado moved north along US 31 through Athens and then lifted back into the sky. It then touched back down near Elkmont, to make the second tornado of the afternoon in that area.

An Athens man caught the first tornado on camera, when it came through a field across the street from his house.

He stepped outside and began shooting video on his cell phone.

"I just thought it was raining. I didn't even know it was supposed to storm and the next thing you know, a tornado was dropping out of the sky," said Steven Winton.

Winton said the storm was too close for comfort, especially because it came without warning.

"It was definitely past us by the time the sirens went off and by that time we were already out of harms way," said Winton.

In its path, the tornado left minor damage. It downed trees and power lines, banged up the roof of Walmart, and tore through this shopping center sign. Fortunately, no one was injured.

"I don't think it was anybody's fault, but something wasn't right about yesterday. We had no clue. Nobody had a clue," said Winton.
