Police have arrested a woman they say was legally drunk when she hit a driver working on a disabled vehicle in the emergency lane of Loop 202 on Thursday night.
According to the police report, Liane Corwin, of Chandler, was driving eastbound on Loop 202 near Recker Road in Mesa when she drove into the right side emergency lane and slammed into the back end of a disabled vehicle. The driver of the disabled car was in front of it with the hood up when the impact pushed his car into him. Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Corwin had blood-shot eyes and the officer could smell alcohol on her. She had a blood alcohol content of 0.175. The legal driving limit is .08.
She was taken into custody on one count of manslaughter.
