BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) -

The search for an Eastern Connecticut State University student, who has been missing for almost a month, continued in Bridgeport on Thursday.

Connecticut State Police searched pond by boat using side scan sonar to scan the bottom of a pond near Beardsley Park for leads in the disappearance of Alyssiah Wiley, who hasn't been seen since April 20.

Wiley said she was going home to West Haven for the weekend but wasn't reported missing until days later when she failed to return to school.

State police said Wiley had been to this area in the past and they found a car of interest was found nearby.

"From Day 1 it's surreal, everyday after it just becomes that much more heart-wrenching because there's no reason for it," said Wiley's mother Corrinna Martin

Using a boat they went back-and-forth, scanning under the water's surface, looking for anything out of the ordinary that may shed light on the case.

"It's extremely hard on us when we hear different things or see different things," Martin said. "The unknowns can be so crippling."

State police previously said the tips keep coming in and investigators are taking each and every one seriously.

Wiley's mother told Eyewitness News her daughter would never pick up and leave. And she wasn't having any problems with anyone.

"She was taken, she was taken," Martin said. "She's somewhere where she's not able to reach out to us because there is a selfish individual who wants her for themselves."

Volunteers have searched several areas where Wiley has some sort of connection to including Bridgeport, Meriden and Ansonia.

Some of the park goers shared their concern with Eyewitness News about the search going on for so long.

"I hope they find her alive," said fisherman Andy Harris of Bridgeport. "It's sad thing for somebody to be missing like that."

Wiley's family said they are also planning an awareness march this Saturday at Beardsley Park in Bridgeport at 4:30 p.m.

The goal is to keep the focus on the search and putting out the plea to the public that if anyone knows something.

Wiley's family said they're offering a reward for any information about Wiley's whereabouts.

Investigators said they are following up on several leads, and are urging anyone with information about Wiley's whereabouts to call police immediately at 860-537-7500.
