Greenville County deputies said an Upstate man is behind bars after he threatened to hurt his wife and shot up a car outside of his home on Mother's Day.

Lt. Michael Hildebrand with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said they were called to 50-year-old Gregory Gardziola's home in Greer about a domestic dispute after the 911 caller said he threatened to shoot his wife.

When deputies arrived, they saw a car in the driveway riddled with bullets, Hildebrand said. He said at that point, deputies saw a teen at the front door who was able to get out before Gardziola shut the door.

That is when deputies called in the SWAT team, but a minute later Gardziola came out peacefully and surrendered, Hildebrand said.

Hildebrand said earlier in the day, Gardziola shoved his wife and threatened to shoot her then shot up the car all while two 15-year-olds and an 18-year-old were inside the home.

Gardziola was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, two counts of child neglect, use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

According to Dr. Christopher Wright, Chief of Medical Staff Affairs at Greenville Health System, Gardziola is an Upstate doctor and his clinical privileges at GHS have been suspending pending review.

He is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.
