PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The 13th-ranked Arizona State University baseball team used a three-run homer in the eighth inning and a leadoff homer in the ninth to rally for a 10-9 win over Cal on Saturday night at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, Calif.

Center fielder Kasey Coffman tied the game with a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning and second baseman James McDonald put ASU ahead by one with a leadoff homer in the ninth as the Sun Devils (31-15-1, 13-10) overcame a three-run deficit.

ASU moved to 8-5 in its 13 one-run games this season as McDonald became the fourth different Sun Devil to secure a game-winning hit in the ninth inning or later.

Coffman tied a season high with three hits and finished with four RBI and two runs scored, shortstop Drew Stankiewicz went 3-for-3, and McDonald and designated hitter RJ Ybarra both notched a pair of RBI to pace the offense.

Left-hander Adam McCreeryallowed just two hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings before right-hander Ryan Burr (3-2) took over with one out and a runner on first in the eighth inning. Burr struck out three in 1 2/3 frames en route to collecting his third win of the season.

The Sun Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top half of the third inning, but Cal scored six runs in the bottom of the frame and added three more in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, 9-6.

Consecutive base hits to open the game by Coffman and third baseman Michael Benjamin put two runners on base for Ybarra, who knocked in a two out, two-run single to give the Devils an early 2-0 lead.

ASU extended its lead to five with three runs in the second inning. First baseman Dalton DiNatale scored on an RBI groundout By Coffman, left fielder Jake Peevyhouse reached on a fielder's choice before coming home on a Benjamin single and a throwing error, and Benjamin scored on an RBI single by McDonald.

An RBI double by Stankiewicz in the top of the third scored DiNatale, who reached on an error and stole second, and added to ASU's advantage, 6-0.

the Golden Bears (22-27, 10-16) used six hits to score six runs in the bottom of the third and knotted the game, 6-6. Kellogg hit the leadoff batter and then surrendered four consecutive hits to the Golden Bears, who cut their deficit in half with an RBI double and a pair of run-scoring singles. A sacrifice fly and another RBI single brought Cal within one, 6-5, and ended Kellogg's outing as he was replaced by right-hander Eric Melbostad with two outs and two runners on base. Melbostad conceded an RBI single before inducing a groundout to end the frame.

Right-hander Alex Blackford loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth on a walk, a single and a fielding error before a wild pitch and an RBI single gave Cal a two-run lead. McCreery took over with runners on first and second, and no outs, and gave up one run on a wild pitch before getting out of the inning trailing, 9-6.

Right fielder Trever Allen singled to start the eighth inning and Stankiewicz added a base hit two batters later to bring the game-winning run to the plate. Following a flyout by Peevyhouse, Coffman drove a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall to tie the game at nine.

Starting left-hander Ryan Kellogg did not factor in the decision as he allowed six runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. His 83 innings pitched this season are the ninth most by a freshman in school history.

Cal starting right-hander Trevor Hildenberger gave up six runs, including two earned, on eight hits in six innings but did not factor in the decision. Reliever Logan Scott (4-3) took the loss after conceding the game-winning home run to McDonald.
