Phoenix bans open fires because of humidity

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -

Phoenix is banning open fires at its mountain and desert preserves because of weather conditions resulting in extreme fire danger.

The ban takes effect on Monday. The Phoenix Fire Department recommended the ban because of a combination of low humidity, increasing temperatures and frequent high winds.

Smoking and charcoal fires are also included in the ban. Propane or gas grills may be used only in established picnic areas.

The fire ban doesn't apply to traditional city parks.
