TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Tiffin woman received a shock when she calculated her taxes this year. Although the company she worked for deducted city taxes, they never paid the city.

"It makes me sick," Michelle Thomas said. "Knowing how much they make, too, it makes me sick, to know that they're getting it out of the little people."

Thomas can't help but be upset. From February to August of 2012, Absolute Staffing, her employer, was taking Tiffin and Upper Sandusky city taxes out of each of her paychecks.

So when Thomas went to file her City of Tiffin taxes this year and discovered she owed money, she was baffled.

"At that point, I pulled up my payroll report, my last pay stub, printed everything out," she said. "Sure enough, I had paid enough to cover my Tiffin city taxes, but on the W2 it shows $0.00."

The Tiffin City Tax Commissioner had no record of an account with Absolute Staffing. When the staffing company wouldn't answer her calls, Thomas took the matter to small claims court.

"The court was scheduled for April 10," she said. "And on April 9, lo and behold, $180 showed up in my account from Absolute Staffing."

Thomas won her case, and is still owed $70 to cover the court filing fee, but she believes there could be dozens of others who are going through the same thing.

"Nobody deserves that," Thomas said. "Not when they pay for that."

Tiffin officials say they are investigating the company for tax fraud. Absolute Staffing officials say they are also looking into the matter.
