Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel is continuing his effort to challenge his 2002 murder conviction on the grounds his trial attorney failed to competently defend him.
Skakel's trial in Rockville Superior Court resumes Monday.
Skakel is serving 20 years to life for Martha Moxley's golf club bludgeoning in 1975 when they were 15-year-old neighbors in Greenwich. Skakel, the 52-year-old nephew of Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel, argues he was deprived of his right to effective legal representation when Michael Sherman was his attorney.
Skakel contends Sherman got caught up in the limelight of the high-profile case and failed to prepare and obtain evidence pointing to other suspects.
Sherman says he did all he could to prevent Skakel's conviction and denied he was distracted by media attention.
