PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced the team's 2013 regular season schedule. Below are some key highlights followed by a week-by-week breakdown:

SCHEDULE NOTES:

  • The Cardinals host the Seahawks in a nationally-televised Thursday night game on NFL Network on October 17 at University of Phoenix Stadium.
  • The schedule includes seven games against teams that made the playoffs a year ago and four against 2012 division winners. Arizona will face both participants in last year's NFC Championship Game (Atlanta & San Francisco) and play a total of seven games against teams that won at least 11 games in 2012.
  • The team's home opener is in week 2 against the Detroit Lions at University of Phoenix Stadium where the Cardinals have sold out all 73 games played since the venue opened in 2006.
  • The Cardinals are scheduled to face at least five QBs selected with the #1 overall pick in the draft: STL Sam Bradford (2010); CAR Cam Newton (2011); IND Andrew Luck (2012); DET Matt Stafford (2009) & PHI Michael Vick (2001).
  • First-year head coach Bruce Arians will play twice against rookie head coaches: Jacksonville's Gus Bradley and Philadelphia's Chip Kelly.

Week 1 at St. Louis: Bruce Arians makes his regular season debut with a road game against division foe; Cards have won 7 of the last 8 in St. Louis.

Week 2 vs. Detroit: In home opener Cards will face Lions team they defeated 38-10 last season; Arizona looking for 6th straight home win over Detroit whose last win in AZ was 1993.

Week 3 at New Orleans:  Cards play first game in New Orleans since 2009 Divisional Playoff; Arizona leads the all-time series 14-13.

Week 4 at Tampa Bay: Arizona returns to Raymond James Stadium for first time since facing Steelers there in Super Bowl XLIII; looks to even all-time series with Bucs at nine games a side.

Week 5 vs. Carolina: Cam Newton and Panthers come to University of Phoenix Stadium looking to avenge loss in week 1 of 2011; will mark 11th time in last 13 regular seasons that the two clubs have met.

Week 6 at San Francisco: Cards make their final regular season visit to Candlestick Park which moves into new stadium in Santa Clara in '14; Arizona looking for first win in San Francisco since 2008.

Week 7 vs. Seattle: In a prime time Thursday night tilt on NFL Network the Cards face NFC West rival Seattle; marks just the 2nd Thursday night home game in team history (11/30/95 vs. Giants was the other).

Week 8 vs. Atlanta: Matt Ryan and the Falcons make their first visit to AZ since losing in the 2008 Wild Card Game at University of Phoenix Stadium. Cards lead the all-time series 15-12 and the home team has won the last six.

Week 9 BYE: Open date comes exactly in the middle of season with eight games down and eight to go.

Week 10 vs. Houston: The defending AFC South champs come to town for just the 2nd time ever; Cards won in their only other visit by 28-21 score in 2009 thanks to a goal-line stand from the 1-yard line inside the game's final minute.

Week 11 at Jacksonville: In the 4th all-time meeting between the clubs, Arizona plays in Jacksonville for the first time since a 31-17 win in 2009.

Week 12 vs. Indianapolis: Bruce Arians faces the team with whom he earned coach of the year honors in 2012 as interim head coach for 12 games; Andrew Luck leads Indy team looking for 5th straight win in the series.

Week 13 at Philadelphia: Arizona faces Philly for 3rd straight season and 118th time overall (Cards lead series 57-55-5); in 5 career games vs. the Eagles, WR Larry Fitzgerald has nine TDs and has averaged 114 receiving yards per contest.

Week 14 vs. St. Louis: Arizona closes the season series with the Rams; the game is the first of three division games the Cards will play over the season's final four weeks.

Week 15 at Tennessee: The Cardinals will be looking for their first-ever win in Tennessee; only other regular-season visit saw them lose 20-17 on last-second TD in 2009. It will be their 10th all-time meeting and Cards lead the series 5-4.

Week 16 at Seattle: Three days before Christmas, the Cardinals head to the Pacific Northwest for a divisional match-up with the Seahawks.

Week 17 vs. San Francisco: Cards close at home vs. 49ers as the NFL's week 17 slate is again composed entirely of divisional match-ups; it will be the second straight season the two clubs meet in the regular season finale.
